Spokane Valley is the ancestral homeland of the Coeur d’Alene tribe.

The Under One Sky exhibit features stories of the fur traders, the missionary priests, Antoine Plante, and the Mullan Road.

Pow Wows

Pow wows were held in the Valley along the Spokane River, bringing together the Palouse, Nez Perce and other tribes for annual games, trading and storytelling.

Mullan’s Military Road exhibit opens on May 25th. 624 miles of road were constructed from Ft Walla Walla, WA to Ft Benton, MT from 1858 to 1862.

Apple orchard farming was the chief economic driver in Spokane Valley’s early years. Without water, however, none of it was possible.
